MVA BILLING
The following packet is an explanation of Medicount Management’s approach to Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) billing. In order be able to bill for MVAs, we require three pieces of critical information:
1. NFIRs report - this reporting system is used by the fire department when reporting an auto accident. This is necessary for the insurance to see the narratives of the procedures performed.
2. Police Crash Report - this is a critical piece of information which is needed in order to process billing being sent to any insurance company. Without the police crash reports we cannot prove to the insurance company which party’s at fault, making it hard to collect on the claim.
3. The Included Supplemental Forms - supplemental forms included and printed by Medicount Management has become a necessary piece of information requested by insurance companies. This form summarizes and explains the level of service provided by the fire department deeming it a billable service.
In order to initiate this billing process Medicount Management, Inc. requires a signed copy of the contract, and a copy of your ordinance or resolution to have on file. Included in this packet is a sample resolution which states that the municipality will be billing for both structure fires, and MVAs. On this resolution is also stated the rates for which municipality will bill, and the amounts at each level of service. These rates are used by the majority of our clients upon the recommendation of Medicount Management, Inc.
Motor Vehicle Accident billing is a recognized billing practice according to the State of Ohio. House Bill 255 essentially grants the authority to fire apartments to bill for services rendered. This is the most recognized piece of legislation when it comes to MVA billing and the insurance companies. Since its inception April 1, 2005, the number of denials has been dramatically reduced. The auto insurance’s willingness to pay these claims goes to show you that your citizens and non-citizens already pay for the service of the fire department in their automobile premiums, but is not being collected yet by your municipality.
